In the Abacos

It was finally time to leave Lake Worth. Weather check and preparations made. We will have a short crossing window this year, so the decision is made to continue all the way to Green Turtle Cay, Abaco Bahamas.

We pull anchor at 5 am on Dec 31, 2009 and head out to the ocean. Our buddy boat Seaduction soon follows. The conditions are not ideal for this crossing and we know it will be rough. We have a forecast for SE winds 13-17 kts, 4 - 6 ft seas, and a 2 ft NE swell.

The seas very confused for the first 20 miles and it was a very uncomfortable ride. Once we were in the Gulf Stream the seas were more organized and the ride was better. At 2 pm we crossed onto the Little Bahama Bank, OH what a difference. The seas flattened right out and the beautiful waters appeared before us.

We continued through the night and arrived in Green Turtle at 7:30 am. We are currently docked, along with Seaduction at the Leeway Yacht Club Marina. We will stay here for a few days and visit with our friends Bill & Ruthe while exploring this beautiful Cay.

Happy New Year
